Community Care

The Group has developed from the old ‘Good Neighbours Scheme’, a title which most aptly describes its aims then and now. A small committee and a much wider group of supporters provide regular lunches and the opportunity for social contact for elderly and retired villagers.

Sunday Lunch and Tuesday Soup Lunch

The once-a-month Sunday lunch takes place on the second Sunday of the month in the Memorial Hall at 12.30pm and the weekly Tuesday soup lunches are held in St Andrew’s Room at 12.15pm. Some transport is available for both lunches. If you would like to give the lunches a try, please contact TBA about the Sunday lunch and Barbara Teal on 226170 about the Tuesday lunch. You will get a very warm welcome.

Transport Scheme

We also operate a Transport Scheme of volunteer drivers who can take clients to medical appointments at local Doctors surgeries, clinics and hospitals. All our drivers have been satisfactorily subjected to checks by the Vetting and Barring Service. There is no charge for this service but donations are normal and accepted gratefully. Transport is booked through our Transport Co-ordinator, Ann Jones on 226337.

Friday Games Afternoon

The Friday games afternoon is held every other Friday from 2pm to 4pm. A small group of enthusiasts meet to play cards or word games in each others homes and we also have several non playing hostesses. The afternoons are held together by a cup of tea and a biscuit or cake and a chat. Please contact Joan Atkinson on 226241 for more details.

Link Helpers Scheme

Our ‘Link Helpers Scheme’ is a network of ‘good neighbours’ who keep a gentle eye on their more vulnerable neighbours and who will check on them in bad weather and power cuts etc. They can also suggest to the Committee if they see that some short-term support, such as shopping help is needed. Link Helpers also assist the Parish Council by delivering a welcome letter from the Chairman and a Little Baddow footpath map along with a Link Helper card outlining our activities and giving the name and telephone number of their Link Helper. If you don’t know who your Link Helper is, please ring Joan Atkinson on 226241 to find out.

The Voluntary Community Care Group also links with the village Visiting Group and ANGELS scheme.

Age Concern Essex celebrates, supports and champions older people without prejudice or discrimination.
