As Chair of Little Baddow Parish Council, which I have held now for a year, I thought I would put together a few words during these trying times. I certainly did not expect to have to preside over something as drastic as the Coronavirus outbreak. I hope everyone in the parish is keeping themselves safe and in good spirits.

A very big thank you goes out to all the medical teams and key workers trying their utmost to keep or make us well. The Community Care Group and the link helpers group have and are spending a lot of time assisting with emergency help line requests, in organising rotas and other beneficial aid to help all who need it with shopping, picking up prescriptions and just talking on the phone with reassuring words. A significant number of Volunteers in the village are dedicating their time to man the emergency telephone number (03000 120215). It is wonderful to live in a village with so many good-hearted people all pulling together for the common good. To all these people a very big Well Done and thank you.

On to Parish Council matters, the council decided not to meet for our normal monthly meetings but to social distance and keep in touch via email, telephone or other social media platforms. To this end it was agreed by Councillors that standing orders would be suspended during the lock down period and responsibility for decision making would be delegated to the Clerk who will liaise with councillors, a particular focus will be on Financial and Planning matters. Other non-essential tasks will be dealt with by the Clerk where possible and any urgent issues would go out to councillors for approval normally by email.

The Annual Assembly due to take place on the 13th May this year has been postponed until better times and the usual annual newsletter will not go out until the annual Assembly has been rescheduled.

Kind regards, keep safe and well

Peter Irvine
