Advance notice: Overnight roadworks at Army and Navy Roundabout, Chelmsford

Important preliminary works will take place before Christmas to support our future plans to dismantle and remove the Army and Navy flyover.

These works will be carried out overnight and consist of the removal of electronic flyover signs, leaving the gantries in place, and carrying out trial hole surveys on the roundabout and material testing. Once the electronic signs have been removed, temporary signs will be put into place to reiterate that the flyover remains fully closed to all traffic.

These works are planned to take place overnight and are scheduled to start on Monday 25 November 2019 and are due to complete on the morning of Saturday 7 December.

Nightly lane restrictions will be needed to reduce the traffic to one lane on the roundabout and its approaches to manage vehicles around the junction while works are carried out for the safety of the workforce and the public.

We urge all users of the Army and Navy Roundabout to take additional care when travelling through the works and to allow extra travelling time.

Pedestrian accesses, including the subway, will be maintained.
